THE SHOOTOUT
Included in the years various competitions is the Foothills Shootout which is based on match play format and is only open to members. Players are seeded according to where they finished on the Championship Ladder for the previous year. To qualify for the Shootout, players must play in the 1st game of the year (Round 1 January game). This is referred to as the Shootout Qualifying Round. Depending on the number of members playing in the Qualifying Round, some elimination matches may be scheduled to derive the 32 players needed to participate in Round 1. The Shootout format is one event where the two drawn opponents compete hole for hole either winning, losing or drawing each hole, depending on the number of strokes taken. Handicaps are taken into account and are calculated using the differential between the two opponents handicaps. e.g. Player A handicap 12 Player B Handicap 20, The differential is 8. Using the Stableford index, Player A has to give one stroke to Player B on the 1-8 rated holes. Countback is used where the match is halved and is based on the player who won the Number 1 rated hole. If this hole is halved, then the No 2 hole becomes the countback hole. If this is halved, then the rated holes in descending order are used until a winner is declared. Note that the Shootout is played in conjunction with the clubs scheduled event (normally stroke) and does not preclude either visitors or non-qualifiers from playing in the scheduled event.

COCK OF THE WALK
During monthly games except Gala Day and Ambrose events, members play for the position of Cock of the Walk. The Cock of the Walk is the first to hit off at any game, with the group comprising of the Cock plus two challengers and a Committee Member who acts as adjudicator. The Cock group always play Stroke with the Committee Member playing the game of the day and he always tees off fourth in the group. Challenging for the Cock is on a rotation basis with members working through the field and on that basis a member can challenge approximately every eighteen months. If a challenger cannot play, they forfeit the opportunity to compete for the Cock. The next member on the rotation list (emergency) replaces the unavailable challenger. Should a member be advised that they are an emergency starter for challenger and fail to attend the game, they DO NOT loose their position on the list. BENEFITS OF BEING THE COCK
-
You continue to hit off first for a long as you hold the medallion.
-
Members are expected to buy you drinks on demand helps if you're a piss pot.

ROTATION THROUGH FIELD
The Club Starter is charged with the responsibility of rotating players through the field in order that
-
You play with as many members as possible during the year.
-
You receive a fair spread of early to late starts.
This system of rotation is a manual one, and as such, mistakes can be made. If you find that you are not being rotated, would you mention it to the Starter and he will endeavour to correct the situation. Rotation of fields occurs in games from January to September. The playing position of games for October, and November (with the exception of the Cock group) is based on the number of Club championship points you have at the time of the game, ie members with lowest points play in the first group, players with most points play in last group.

GALA DAY - XMAS Break-up
Each December we have a special Modified Ambrose-Stableford Team event: The rules are simple,
Groups of 4 will be made up with each to nominate a captain.
The game is essentially stableford apart from a couple of variations.
Each player will tee off, the Captain in consultation with his group will chose which tee shot is to be used and mark it's position.
All players in the group retrieve their balls and each player in turn drop and play from within 1 club length of the selected drive or place within one scorecard width if on the green. In either case no closer to the hole.
Each player then plays out the hole with their own ball as they would in a normal stableford event (only the tee shot is played ambrose style)
Once the players have holed out the best 2 stableford scores are added together and marked on the card by the captain.
Each group must use at least 4 tee shots for each member except in the case where a group of 3 will use a min of 3 tee shots per group member.
The team with the highest total at the end of the round wins.
